Project Assignment #2

We start utilizing one of the most advanced CASE tools available today. The task of this assignment requires both installation and learning of the IBM's product, Rational Requirements Composer®, which was developed for the effective management and reporting of the requirements as well as for the comprehensive documentation maintenance in a life-cycle development project. See its wide range of capabilities at the official site.

Conversion to Rational Requirements Composer

At first, install a trial version of the Rational Requirements Composer into your computing environment. Visit and register at Jazz Community Site to obtain the product, either release 4.0.0.1 or its milestone release 4.0.1 Mn. Both products are stable according to IBM, but the milestone release may have errant behaviors in return for some new features you can utilize.

Install IBM Installation Manager beforehand. You should be able to activate the downloaded product with an accompanied trial license. Choose "Express Install" and default settings. The trial period will be 60 days, perhaps sufficient for the entire duration of your course work. You need to register for the product acquisition. The web installation triggers download close to 1GB (be patient!). Carefully read the installation steps posted to the Community Site and activate the product. The trial install also includes various Rational products or the so-called Collaborative Lifecycle Management applications such as Requirements Management, Change and Configuration Management, and Quality Management. At the moment, you only need Rational Requirements Composer.

Once you completed the installation, convert your BPP, PSS, and Business case documents produced in the previous assignment into a collection of Requirements Composer's elements, so that the resulting converted elements would become online, thus explorable and editable.

Required Deliverables

You must complete the above conversion and produce PDF reports by executing Requirements Composer's reporting capabilities. There will be no additional item required for you to add to your original documents unless specific extra items requested by me (or classmate) to supplement or extend your work of the previous assignment. The exact conversion requirement for this assignment, such as term indexing, will be announced in class.

Disclaimer: This is my second (very short) time to utilize IBM's Rational software products. They are rich in the "advertised" functionally. But the support-desk most probably would not address your problem quickly as the "advertised" responsiveness. The level of my technical understanding of Requirements Composer is same as yours. Explore various online tutorials as well as on-the-web media available on the Web and practice various editing options as many as possible for gaining good understanding of the Composer's usage. Mastering this important tool becomes an invaluable skill set for your future.

Submission

You are to hand in the result of your conversion work by Wednesday 10:00 PM October 17th. Email me the PDF reports produced by the execution of Requirements Composer's reporting capabilities. Your work will be counted 10% of your final grade.
