Software for the Working Mathematician
Thursday and Friday, May 15-16, 2003
City College of New York
Working mathematicians are often too busy to sort through
software that might or might not be useful to them. This conference
is designed with this in mind. Thus there will be demonstrations
of a variety of software packages, presented in a leisurely
fashion, with time for questions and discussion. There will be a
number of intermissions, with a liberal sprinkling of coffee
and other refreshments during the day. The lectures will be held
in a beautiful auditorium, the province of the Music Department
of CCNY, in Shepard Hall, a grand building which houses the
Great Hall of the College. A CD which contains a host of software,
including everything that will have been demonstrated, will be
made available to the participants. Lunch will also be provided
free of charge. This should be an enjoyable, stress-free experience
and everyone is cordially invited to attend and particpate. We
expressly want to invite some of the hardest working members of
the profession, the teachers, to join in what might be thought of
as the celebration of the coming summer, after such a hard winter.
Speakers:
- Anil Nerode (Cornell University) "The Emerging Role of Symbolic
Computation in Science and Technology"
- Walter Neumann (Barnard College, Columbia University) "Software for
